Resident Care Director Takes Home Highest Honor
The Supernova Award is the highest individual honor that our company gives and each year. One individual on the leadership team at Summit Hills is voted by their colleagues as the community’s Supernova based on an assortment of criteria. Each year during the Senior Living Communities Annual Meeting, the winner is revealed and given a customized crystal award at the company’s formal Supernova Awards Evening. The criteria for voting is based on upholding our company’s mission to be caring professionals dedicated to quality services. Additionally, this individual will consistently deliver excellent customer service (to Members, families, and colleagues), lead positively with integrity, take accountability, put the team before themselves, and embody the company’s vision to create communities where people live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
This year, we are proud to congratulate our Resident Care Director, Chastity Byars as the recipient of the 2022 Summit Hills Supernova Award. This honor was bestowed at the Senior Living Communities Annual Meeting on Thursday, July 28th at The Omni Grove Park Inn, in Asheville, North Carolina. As the Resident Care Director, Chastity establishes and implements standards of resident care throughout care services on a 24-hour basis. This position oversees the documentation for residents in their neighborhoods, assigns residents to nursing assistants as needed and assists in the medication management and overall healthcare programs for the residents in a neighborhood.
Chastity started with Senior Living Communities and Summit Hills over 9 years ago as a PRN Nurse and quickly moved into a full time role. She worked her way up to become the Resident Care Coordinator, and now the Resident Care Director. “Summit has been home to me with great support from supervisors to co-workers. As a leader, I am blessed with a great team.” She credits the wonderful support of her family and their healthcare background for assisting her in this role. Chastity and her husband, Terry have been married for 32 years and have 2 adult sons.

Congratulations on being chosen as a Supernova! How do you feel?
I am humbled and thankful to be chosen as the Summit Hills Supernova. I am honored to work for a great company and with people who care about the service they provide and the residents they care for.
What’s your favorite part about your position?
My favorite part about my position is working with the residents as well as being able to help residents and staff. I enjoy seeing the residents out and happy. Seeing the staff grow in their roles, hopefully being there for them.
What do you want people to know about working in a retirement community?
It is very rewarding to see smiles on the residents faces, you are learning something new everyday, your job turns into a work family.
What is your favorite thing about working for Senior Living Communities?
I am so supported in my role and by everyone in the company. I always feel I can reach out to ask questions and expand my knowledge.
What’s a quote or inspirational words that influence/impact you and why?
“My cup runneth over.” I always feel blessed and try to look on the bright side of all things.
